Energy dashboard not showing up

Hi everyone,

I have some strange behaviour in my HA installation. After upgrading to 2021.8.0 (and now 2021.8.1) there is no Energy Dashboard…I don’t have it.

Removed all custom components and nothing has changed.

There is no clue in logs.

Maybe something is missing in my configuration.yaml but haven’t found any answer in documentation.

Any ideas?

Tom.

Do you have ‘energy:’ or ’default_config:' in your configuration.yaml?

Neither 'energy:' nor 'default_config:' was in my configuration.yaml.
Now it is working. Thank You!

That information should really go into the docs and/or the blogpost.

It was in the release notes :

Neither of default_config docs or energy docs states that clearly.

“Add energy integration”, what does that even mean? There is no integration called energy if you trying to add a new integration from the UI for example. And as everything now a days is moving towards “UI” I was under the impression that it would be there.

So to conclude, I don’t think that it was stated clearly. Would be surprised if I’m the only one that missed that information.

I also was not able to find the new energy stuff. Googling to find what I was missing even though I thought it was something just like this still did not give me much until I found this thread.

Thanks! This was not entirely clear. i added energy: to my configuration.yaml and it showed up

Hi,
definitively, you’re not alone
I found this thread because I was also missing the new Energy dashboard in my Home Assistant Core (virtualenv).
Adding “energy:” to configuration.yaml solved the issue, thanks for the solution :+1:

Same here, docs don’t have this information in and had to find it via searching the forums…

wow… same here, this should definitely be in the docs. I provided feedback for this.

Same thing here…the docs page has the “My” links that I also missed and didn’t work.
These shouldn’t be the only way to get to something if it is optional and won’t work on every install out there either.
Once I got that working it said you don’t have the energy integration.
So I go to integrations like bratanon said up above…nothing there.
I have the default_config: and it didn’t work until I put energy: in my config.
So it isn’t in the docs…as of five minutes ago anyway.

Yeah I had the same issue, Add energy integration or the error I’ve seen after clicking the My link to energy config wasn’t very clear

Let see if we can improve the docs somehow? At what doc page do you find the ‘My’ button? Found it, keep you posted.

WIP, apparently: https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant.io/issues/18905 and https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant.io/pull/18746

The requirement is now added to the FAQ:

Having enabled and disabled Energy a while back, then was lucky enough to get an Octopus Mini and new HA sensors c/o the Octopus Energy integration, I then got momentarily stumped on why a reenabled Energy dashboard reported “There is no data to show.” with no immediately obvious config option.
The link to “Show Energy Config of My” on “Understanding Home Energy Management” (see earlier post, thank you) got me in the right place to update the sensors graphed on the Energy dashboard.
Next time I’ll hopefully remember Settings / Dashboards / Energy is what I needed. Though three dots in the top right of the Energy dashboard for Edit Dashboard (like the main default dashboard) would be good / consistent?
