Energy, where to start?

Hi,

I’m new to Home Assistant and I want to get my Frankenstein solar system (dumb batteries, victron shunt, mpp,/growatt/goodwe inverters, shelly 3em CT) added.

All the solar sensor data and control is through MQTT, I have it going into node-red already (with historical data in influxdb and grafana for visualisation, would be cool to use this somehow).

So would I add a bunch of MQTT sensors to grab the relevant readings (and some kind of actuator to switch modes) and then add those sensors somewhere in HASS (is the way to do this well documented, do I need to install anything?) I also have a battery and I’m on wholesale energy utility 5m pricing.

I took a look at EMHASS but I couldn’t make head nor tail of it. I’m not that interested in deferring loads or grid arbitrage.

Thanks.

The logical way to use it in HA is the energy dashboard, but that cannot make use of historical data gathered elsewhere. If you have the sensors in HA, simply set them in the energy dashboard definition:

There are other ways, such as custom power/energy cards and using grafana (but you have that already). But I’d start here, as this is by far the easiest.
