Entity Cards - am I using Lovelace? (where's the Cast row?)

I’ve been using HA for a few years. As Lovelace became the standard for the UI, I didn’t make any updates to my configuration. I assume that what I’m seeing is Lovelace. Am I wrong? Is there something I need to add to my config? I have not clicked the “Configure UI” under the … menu, wary of the warning displayed.

Specifically, I’m seeing discussion of the new Cast row. I’m not really sure what this means - where would I see a row? If I open an entity card, I’m not seeing anything Cast-specific.

The entities card displays entities, each entity is essentially a row. Place a cast entity_id inside the entities card and you’ll see the cast row.

I’m not really sure what this means. Do I need to create a new configuration file for all of my entities? I am still using the cards that Home Assistant generated for me. I’ve defined groups but nothing on an entity level.

I suggest you learn lovelace first. It’s pretty easy. Watch the video and start editing. Then you’ll understand what I’m saying.

Thanks. Sorry - got distracted and now getting back to this.

To be sure I’m clear: once I switch to Lovelace, I’ll be responsible for manually adding any entities that I want in the UI. Yes?

Is the best way to start - keeping the UI I already have - to use the “configure UI” option under the … menu?

Yes, But you can switch back and forth between lovelace and the old ui.

If you configure the UI, you’ll have to manually adjust everything from that point forward. Otherwise it will auto fill. The choice is yours. Personally, i like to manage mine because you can create some crazy crap.

I rarely use the UI, but I’d like access to being able to cast a couple views. Is there a way to stick with the autogenerated UI and get the cast row on an entity?

I don’t believe you can.
