Hey I’ve been trying to add this zwave outlet for a while now:
I have been trying to add it automatically, with the qr code, and with the qr code text, in HA, in the js UI, etc. I never get anywhere. I am putting it in pairing mode and searching for it. I have two zwave devices already, so I know my zwave stick works. It’s a Z‐Stick Gen5 USB Controller. When I scan the QR code, or extract the QR code text, I get this error:
Error while calling provisionSmartStartNode: The controller does not support the SmartStart feature (ZW0209)
Here is the actual QR code text:

Any ideas on this?
The error message is pretty clear I think, your Gen5 controller doesn’t support SmartStart. If it wasn’t clear, the QR code is for SmartStart (usually). Also, when using SmartStart you don’t put the controller into pairing mode, the device will include automatically on power-up (and will retry depending on design).
Presumably the firmware is version 1.0. You need to upgrade to 1.2 to have SmartStart support. https://aeotec.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/6000252294-z-stick-gen5-v1-02-firmware-update
Alternatively I think you can also pre-input the DSK only (click the “Add” button instead of “Scan” on the SmartStart page) into Z-Wave JS UI and during “classic” inclusion it will automatically fill in the DSK for you (I haven’t tried though). If the device didn’t include the full DSK, you can extract it from the QR code via this website: Z-Wave JS: SmartStart QR Code Generation Utility
