ESP Home not starting up, but working somehow

Since my ESP Home version didn’t update since 2022 I deleted the old version and installed the latest version ( 2023.11.0 ) manually. Now I have the weird behavior, that when I click on ESPHome in the sidebar it says the addon needs to be started, but no matter what I do I can not start the addon. I reinstalled and restarted a couple of times. Reading the log looks like ESPhome starts normally. But I can also see all the devices, I just can’t access to ESPhome Tab to install new devices.

What am I missing here?

That the esphome integration that makes all your nodes communicate and work with Home Assistant is part of HA core and will always work.

The esphome dashboard add-on on the other hand is optional and allows managmanet, configuration and updates of your esphome nodes.

Try a full restart of your host machine to see if it works then

Oha, just noticed that there is a difference between Home Assistant Restart and System Restart.
Thanks a lot for the hint, now it works.

Sorry, can I jump in here. I’m having the same problem you had. I cannot start ESPhome no matter what I do. Can you explain what you mean by difference between Home Assistant Restart and System Restart? Which did you do to get it working? Thank you.

Second one versus third one
