I’ve had my ESP32 S3-Box-S3 setup for a couple of weeks as a voice assistant and it’s been working great!
But when I came to use it today nothing was displayed on the screen. Just the backlight was on and nothing else displayed. It did however respond to voice commands OK.
I’ve tried pulling the power cord and re-installing the firmware from ESPHome without success.
Before I try the default factory firmware I just thought I’d ask if anyone has had this issue before?
After seeing the new blog post about further work to Assist, I dragged the ESP32-Box out of the e-waste pile and tried a re-install from scratch via the ESP Projects page.
Apparently sitting unpowered for 2 weeks has helped because it is now back and working again. We will see if it keeps working or repeats its earlier behaviour.
This might not be everyone’s issue, since OP had it working initially, but I found this thread because I was having the white screen trying to set up my ESP32-S3-BOX-3 for the first time: make sure you’ve installed the right version for your hardware!
If you use the flasher page at ESP32-S3-BOX voice assistant - Home Assistant and don’t read carefully, you could easily miss that there are TABS in the middle of the page for the different hardware versions.
Edit: the version for the latest hw revision is now default! The default tab is the discontinued ESP32-S3-BOX, rather than the newest ESP32-S3-BOX-3 most people will buy today.
So if you just scroll down to the connect button without switching, as I did, you’ll have a bad time. It will seem to work, flashing and appearing in home assistant, but the screen will be white and nothing will work. Which of course makes sense in retrospect
