ESP8266 into existing alarm DSC System

Here is what I did:
Created a device
Copied the dev branch yaml with the required changes.
Copied the card files to config/www and added the ressource link.
Edited the configuration yaml to add the panel
Created a custom dashboard to add the panel card
uploaded the config to the esp32.
That’s all.
Am I missing any configuration steps to be able to write to the DSC?
How do I troubleshoot the write pin?
I’m using 22/21/18 pins.

Guess I found it. I need to change that transistor.

You have more than a write pin issue. The logs show garbage data. Looks like you have something reversed or not connected to the correct output on the panel

I Used a PNP transistor instead of a NPN. I thought that explains the reversed output?
I’m getting a pack of NPN transistors tomorrow and will retest. If I get to send command I will solder the components. I will remove the transistor and test reading only to see if garbage data is still there.

Cmd 11’s, 5d’s, 0a’s, 05’s, etc. Not what you have. Also , the traffic flow is not that busy. So again you either have the wrong output connected to the wrong input pin or for some reason the 5016 is not compatible. I have never tried a 5016 or know anyone whos has so can’t say. I’m pretty sure it should work though since it’s part of the dsc832 family.

Forgot to thank you for the quick replies and amazing work you’ve done and keep doing mister. Highly appreciate it.
I assumed the physical panel can be kept wired in. I just added the esp32 wires on top of the existing yellow and green lines without removing them. Is that how it is supposed to be done or do I have to unplug the existing yellow and green wires and keep only the esp32 wires? I don’t think the DSC will like it. I have to find he speaker wires to disable the speakers to avoid the alarm going off and exploding my ear drums
The NPN transistors will probably come in today so I will test the write pin. I’m playing with the power supply, external vs dsc battery, to see if that reduces the garbage traffic. I’m using pin 22/21 only for now.

Used the DSC power supply (RED/Black terminals) with regulator (7-16 v to 3.3v) and connected the ground wires coming from the 10k resistors directly to the DSC black wire terminal. I’m now seeing what seems to be clean traffic. I even tested a door open/close state change. So all is good I think. Waiting for the NPN transistor to test using the panel. Thanks again.

Got everything working now
Just got the NPN transistor pack from amazon. I threw in a BC548 and test arming the system. It worked.
Just for future readers: I salvaged an NPN transistor (C945) and tried it but got a panel error and the panel was completely frozen. It resumed when I disconnected the green wire coming from the DSC to the transistor. The transistor’s max current is 150 mA . I then tried another salvaged transistor C13003 (5amp this time) but got no write response. So use one of the transistors listed in the app details. The BC548 has a max current value of 500 mA.
And it’s working using a breadboard by the way. I will look into making a pcb soon.

Good you got it figured out and you don’t need to disconnect the hardwire keypad. The esp only acts as an additional keypad not a replacement.

Yes. Thanks. I even used the panel to set the date/time
Then I armed the system and opened the door to test. The alarm started barking and I tried to disarm from the phone app but the alarm wouldn’t stop. So I had to go to the panel. I’m discovering how this alarm works so there might be a delay in disarming or what not. Will have to read the manual to get familiar with this system.
Here is the power consumption of the esp32 at rest. It does go up a bit when a command is sent from the panel.

You could order my board, but I used a 30 pin ESP32 that is not very common. I would recommend asking one of the posters in this thread that used an ESP322 mini which is much more popular.

Had this happen twice:
I forget to disarm the system.
I open the front door
I use the phone app to disarm the system
For some reason it does not work
The siren starts howling
I try multiple times on the phone app
The phone app show system unavailable
I try again, putting the code in and all
I end up going to the keypad and disarming the system
Just throwing this in if anyone have experienced this.

Now a quick question: the answer is probably hidden in the user manual or the service manual. What does it take to disable the internal and external speakers so that I can test the alarm without it waking the whole neighborhood? I do see bell wires and all but I guess there is more to it then disconnecting two wires.
I’m also relocating the alarm board to a hidden spot in the basement and leaving only the keypad near the front door so this info might come in handy when I do the relocation.

Thank you for your reply, I do have a DSC PC585 stored somewhere that ill play with for sure.
I was asking also because the C&K is connected to a DSC GS3055-I that communicates wirelessly to the central, so thought it might be using a compatible protocol.
