Esphome Builder cannot take control of ESP32-S3-BOX

Hello,

I’m having an issue with a brand new ESP32-S3-BOX-3B. I have followed the instructions on the voice assistants tutorial, and the box gets flashed and added to home assistant just fine. I am able to control my devices by speaking to it without a problem. Now, the issue is when I want to customize the wake word (or anything else for that matter). In the Esphome Builder add-on, the device is discovered. When I attempt to “take control” of the device, however, the build breaks and I cannot get it to complete no matter what I do. The device gets added to the Esphome Builder dashboard and it shows online, but I cannot install a new configuration hence I cannot customize it. Here are the logs from the build. Please help

Same errors here on both types of devices that I just got (one box-3 and one echo). Did I pick a really bad time to try these?

Yes, I have the same problem. Where to report this error to be included in the next fix?

Check here, im still testing for myself, but they seem to have fixed it

Ok so that did not work, so what i did is install a older ESPhome
esphome-legacy-addons

  • I turned off the main add-on
  • disabled auto start just in case
  • installed 2024.11 from the Legacy add-on
  • turned it on
  • then on its own webpage i was able to setup the device correctly
  • i had to reconfigure it from scratch from the ESPhome readymade projects page.

Now i have this issue:

What is this “not a git repository” about? What repository is it expecting, and where is it expecting to find it? This is an m5Stack Atom which has been updated using esphome command line in Linux until now when I’m trying to let HA ESPHome Builder ‘Take Control’ of it.

For anyone experiencing the same issue, check out this thread:

A workaround seems to be using an older version of esp-idf.
This worked for me on an ESP32-S3 DevKitC-1:

  framework:
    type: esp-idf
    version: 4.4.8
    platform_version: 5.4.0

This resolved that particular problem. Further issues were resolved by something a little further down in the thread you reference, using wake-word-voice-assistant/m5stack-atom-echo.adopted.yaml@main.

This also worked for building after the latest update for ESP32-S3-BOX for me as well. Thanks for the update. I’d have never gone looking in a M5Stack sub-forum for ESPHome/HA based stuff.
