Esphome not recognizing esp8266 port

hi guys, I have a beginner’s question about raspberry pi. I started a new setup, this time on raspberry pi 4. I hooked up a nodemcu esp8266 via its usb with a short cable to the usb in the pi, but it’s not being recognized by esphome in the home assistant ui. I rebooted the devices and held the flash button but I’m still missing something. Anyone got any tip? what logs to check or things to do? what’s the device name in /dev supposed to be?

thanks

Try restarting the ESPHome addon with the ESP board connected.

You shouldn’t need to press any buttons to get an ESP8266 into bootloader mode.

Also, if you haven’t already, check that the cable has its data pins all connected and functional or try different cables until you get one that works. I’ve come across more than a few microusb cables that will only carry power. I bought a couple of cables that I know have good wiring for flashing and just keep them with the rest of my electronics parts & tools, to use exclusively for the first flash of new esp chips.

I’m sure it’s caused by a USB cable.
I solved this problem at a cz forum and it was found that only the fourth cable started working.

That was the reason. Thanks!
