Eve Energy Outlet Discussion Thread

I couldn’t find much information about this device so I figured I’d start a discussion thread for it starting with some initial info from my brief time with it.

Model: Eve Energy 20ECN4101

Notable Features:

  • Independent On/Off control for each outlet
  • Power and Energy Monitoring
  • Matter over Thread

The build quality seems good. The connections on the back of the switch for line, neutral, and ground are pig tails that are hard wired into the switch. I’d prefer if they used typical terminals instead.

The LEDs on the two buttons is decent brightness. They are green when on and can flash red when sending the identify command. It’s not clear if they are full RGB of just RED/Green. There is no way to modify the light behavior (I’d like to invert the LEDs so they are off when the outlet is on, and RED when the outlet is off).

The energy monitoring seems to be accurate when testing with a pigtail plugged into a Kill-a-Watt monitor. Both outlets contribute to the energy readings despite them being added with “(top)” in the name. The outlet itself draws about 0.4w. The reporting of energy statistics seems to be limited to every 30 seconds with no options to change the polling interval. I’d prefer there to be an option to push the power usage based on a percent change threshold to facilitate use as a trigger for automatons. 30 seconds is too long to trigger an action when say a device is turned on.

Overall, this is a decent device for strictly on/off control and energy monitoring but I wouldn’t recommend it if you were looking to create automatons based on power usage.

If your load will draw close to 10A you are best to get another switch. I brought some of these and put one on the washing machine to monitor energy and hope to work out cycles to give a ‘load’ finished’ alert. Alas, on first use the device tripped, load did not finish and Open Home Approval Factor of smart switches back a decade. I suspect the full current spike load of washing machine around 9.5A.

That is interesting because the rated current from the manufacturer is 15A / 1800W. I wonder if the inrush from the spinning drum is what tripped it. The specs also list “Motor: 1/2 HP” but I’m far from an Electrical Engineer to know how this would translate to a washers motor.

I am in Aus and the model I have (not sure the exact model) is 240V/10A.

Are you by chance thinking of the plug rather than the outlet?

Yes, plug. Sorry for the confusion.
