So yesterday I got on the Matter pilot with Eve Energy for my smart plug to test it out. After converting it from HomeKit to Matter using firmware, it’s working great on my Home app with my HomePod minis controlling it over Thread. The instructions say to then set it into pairing mode on Device Details in the Home App and then let HA discover it as a new Matter device.
In HA, I scan the Matter code and it shows it as an outlet and tries pairing, but eventually it tells me Unable to Pair Pairing Failed. I contacted Eve support and they tell me that the border router in HA Yellow is not compatible with Eve. I’m not sure I believe that, but they tell me to buy a Smart Things or Google border router.
Has anyone converted their Eve Energy to Matter and gotten it to show up in HA? I suppose I could try removing it from the Home app and then only try adding it to HA as a new Matter device. I’m just looking for anyone’s advice if you’ve already gotten this to work. Once it does, I’m supposed to get even the energy usage info in HA.
I think it needs to be removed apple home. Had the same and after removal/factory reset of the Eve it paired. Only downside I noticed so far is that there is currently no current/voltage sense working (but I think this might come at a later state)
I was able to get 3 of my Eve Energy outlets to pair. It took a lot of trial and error, but here’s what I had to do:
Disable IGMP snooping on the VLAN the thread border routers (HomePod Minis) are connected to (if you have that enabled)
Put the iPhone on the same VLAN
In the Home app, turn on pairing mode on the Eve Energy. Copy the code it gives you.
In the Home Assistant app (must be in the app, not webpage), go to Settings, Devices & Services, Devices
Click Add Device
Select Add Matter Device
Select More Options
Select My Accessory Isn’t Shown Here (even if it is)
Select Enter Setup Code
Paste the code you copied above
When I did all of the above (and the first 2 steps were critical), it finally paired. It took about a minute to give the next option, but so long as you don’t leave the app it should be fine.
One other note: there is current a problem on HAOS where Network Manager doesn’t properly handle the IPv6 Route Advertisements, so if you have more than one thread border router the devices immediately go offline. It sounds like the next release of the core OS will at least make it functional, but it will have a lot of route churn.
Thank you for the detailed reply. I’m now going to give that a try. In the meantime, I bought an Aqara smart outlet to try with the heater I wanted to monitor energy with. For the most part, utilizing Zigbee to HASS has worked pretty slick for this use case, but I don’t seem to see every element of energy usage. I’m going to go back to the Eve ones and give your method a try though. I’ll report back on what happens.
