Hi all, first post here. Let me start with the problem, because it’s probably yours too.
Our homes keep gaining devices, but nobody is actually in charge of them. Every brand has its own app and its own cloud — the Xiaomi air conditioner listens to Mi Home, the Tuya plug answers to Tuya, and they don’t talk to each other. Today’s AI assistants are genuinely smart, but they can’t get through your front door: the vendor ones only run their own ecosystem and won’t let you switch. And if an AI could run everything, who would let it just open the garage door or unlock the house?
So I’m building Tiybai OmniButler around one line: your AI, running your whole home — any brand, no accounts handed over, and anything risky waits for your yes.
How that works in plain terms: OmniButler sits in the middle. On top, any AI can plug in — Claude, OpenClaw, Hermes — and underneath it talks to whatever devices you own, so swapping your AI or a device brand doesn’t mean starting over. Risky actions like opening the garage door or unlocking a lock can’t be executed by the AI at all; they sit in a queue until you approve them — that’s a rule in the code, not a request in a prompt. (Approving is deliberately boring: a tiny local web page, or a dialog on your Mac. The AI has no approve button at all.) And for Xiaomi and Tuya gear (what most homes in China actually have), it talks to the devices directly on your local network: your vendor cloud password never leaves your house, scenes are simple rules that run on your own machine, and it all keeps working with the internet down, with a log of everything it did.
What it feels like once it’s running: on my way home I send one message, and the living room AC and the air purifier are already going when I walk in. At night I say “good night” and it walks the house once — turns off what’s still on, and if the front door isn’t locked it tells me instead of silently leaving it.
Where it’s at, honestly (v0.3.1, open source, Apache-2.0):
- If you run Home Assistant, the driver works today — you can control real devices right now.
- The Xiaomi and Tuya local drivers are written and pass tests against fake devices, but nobody has run them on real hardware yet. They may break; I want to find out.
- No hardware at all? There’s a fake home with 7 virtual devices; you can click through everything in about 5 minutes. 183 tests passing.
What I’d love help with:
- Try the HA driver on your real setup and tell me what breaks — issue #4: [Testing] Home Assistant driver: testers with a real HA instance wanted · Issue #4 · Tiybai/tiybai-omnibutler · GitHub
- Five-minute smoke test, no hardware — issue #1: [Testing] Try the 5-minute quickstart and report your environment · Issue #1 · Tiybai/tiybai-omnibutler · GitHub
- Vote for which devices I should support next — issue #2: [Device support] Vote / request: which ecosystem should land first? · Issue #2 · Tiybai/tiybai-omnibutler · GitHub
Thanks — bug reports with logs are gold at this stage.
