In which release was the use of external_url added in the configuration?

I know, but I like the old fashioned States UI and yaml programming.
I also fear that almost nothing of my programming will work when updating now.
What do you mean? YAML is still there.
And this will get better when you wait longer? You also should not uodate directly to the latest version, but instead one release after the other.
If you wait longer, at some point some integrations will probably stop working because their API changed and you can’t use it anymore because the change was only fixed in a newer version.

No, the old states UI is deprecated. Two years ago was the switch from states UI to Lovelace as default, there was more than enough time to prepare. Also lovelace is miles better than the old states UI.
You just make your life harder and harder with every release.
