So my fire alarms are all expiring end of the month (6 nest ones) given they are pricy and the shambolic google-nest api ah it down I don’t want to purchase nest again!
I’ve been looking at off the shelf interlinked alarms which transmit on 868 and 915mhz.
So what is everyone else doing and recommending, I’m after a cheaper solution with local integration!
My current smokes are Nest Protect. When they expire im going back to ‘dumb’ interconnected smokes and wiring a relay into the smoke detection loop like the Kiddie SM120 or RM4 to transfer the alarm signal into Ha. Then just use any wired interconnected smokes.
I did as @NathanCu did when my Nest Protects expired last year. I went back to dumb fire/CO detectors and added the FireFighter Z-wave listener next to one of my detectors to relay fire events into HA.
I like many other people had the Nest Thermostat and Protects before Google bought Nest and well see killed by Google to see why I leave them before they leave me.
Depends on your setup.
If you have interconnected smoke detectors (wired or wireless) then you only need one next to any of the detectors. If you press test on one detector and they all go off then you will only need one.
Depending on your detector, the CO sensor may not ever clear after a test; this is not necessarily an issue with the FireFighter it is the detector not using the standard (it is standard for an actual alarm, but hit or miss for implementation in function testing) all clear 3 beeps after a test. My detectors for example won’t clear CO after a test, so I just don’t use CO alarm as a sensor in HA; it works great for smoke detection.
There are other options, this is just what I decided to use.
