are there any other ports that need to be open for the HA companion to communicate with HA
I have port 8123 open on the router and port forwarded to the computer running HA, and the firewall is open port 8123.
No problem on the LAN, but incoming via the router, WAN, it will not connect.
Strange this was working before upgrading HA to the latest version.

I would say you need the entire URL open, including all APIs as the app makes use of them. If you get the cannot connect pop-up click on Settings > troubleshooting > show and share logs and look for your URL to see what the actual failure is to give a clue what the issue may be. The pop-up itself may also contain helpful information.

Port 8123 is open on the router, externally checked, and port 8123 is port forwarded to port 8123 on the computer running HA. The logs on the companion app show nothing on networking, AS the HA comp connects with the firewall up on the device runnng HA, unlikely the require a hidden port, I asked just in case to aid debugging.
