FitBark API

Thought it would be cool to see this integrated. Don’t really have the know how or time to do it myself. But being able to write automations to walk your dog because he hasn’t gotten enough exercise today would be pretty cool.

I requested api access today. If accepted, I’ll pick up one and see what I can do. Looking at the gps version.

EDIT: api access approved.

Any news? I am just getting started with HA but would really like to see this integration.

I’m interested in an integration for the non-GPS model. For those who aren’t familiar with the device and why it would make an interesting and unique Home Assistant integration, here’s a little info. Both the GPS and non-GPS models track your pet’s activity, similar to a FitBit counting steps; and sleep quality. The non-GPS version costs about $70, attaches to the collar, and the replaceable battery lasts 4-6 months.

I can attest to the accuracy of the device. In December I placed two of them on dogs from the same litter that always go on the same walks. Their daily activity and sleep quality vary from day to day but closely match one another as one would expect.

Why would it make an excellent Home Assistant integration? While the FitBark app is okay, a HA integration would add much more functionality. For example, an automation could easily send a notification if the pet missed a scheduled walk. A change in sleep quality can indicate a health issue. These things can be checked in the app, but in a multi-person, multi-pet household, the FitBark app’s limitations quickly become apparent.

I’d be happy to help test an integration if anyone is willing to try making one!

I managed to get this working using a python script running on pyscript. I signed up for API access and got it in a few days. Currently just showing my dogs % of his activity goal for the day which updates every 15 mins. I’d like to improve this in the future and add automations for when he’s activity is low to say take him on a walk out of the speakers. I also just prefer checking the stats on the HA app rather then using the fitbark app. Happy to write up how I got it all working if anyone is interested  Screenshot 2021-10-06 at 10-09-47 Overview - Home Assistant

I would be very curious how to implement this!

hey bob - me and my doggos would love a writeup please!

Hi Bob,

Same as above, I now have my API access… Don’t suppose you have a write up or would like to share the code?

Share the code man! I’m getting a bit sick of opening apps, my phone just needs to be HA kiosk. :joy: seriously though I’d love the code.

Sorry everyone! Not been on the forums here in a while. I’ll get it a bit neater and share! I only ask for dog pics in return

best response ever  consider this a deposit!

Heck yeah! Now I can see my audience and remember why I’m doing it

Decided I’d like to do this properly so I’m working on a custom component that you’ll be able to add to hacs. First time working on one so give me a few days and I’ll hopefully have something. Otherwise If I bail on that I’ll write up a tutorial on my much less elegant solution

Does the API have the ability to display the location of the collar as a GPS device? I looked at the API documentation posted, but it looks like you can only get pet info and health info. Am I missing something?

I was hoping for something similar to the tractive pet collar integration.

Has there been any progress on this? I’m happy to help with the coding (but I’ll need some guidance!)

Hello
Me and my dog Freya waiting for some update in topic of FitBark integration. @BobFish can you post some info, how to configure your FitBark custom component?

@BobFish this guy got out today… He got a FitBark for Xmas so we can track his Couch Potato levels, but might be handy to get notified if he manages to escape from those pesky hoomans he tolerates at home.

Hello!

Just adding to this that I would also love to know how to set this up.

Also, I’m surprised to see how many people received the API. I emailed them over a year ago, and never heard back. Can anyone share how they went about getting the API access?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I found this tracker today, but I’d only buy it if I can integrate it with home assistant. I put in my request for API access and I’m waiting to hear back. If they grant it I’d be happy to help with coding.
