If your Tapo P115 stopped working in Home Assistant after a recent firmware update, the solution is very simple:
Open the Tapo app → Device Settings → Third Party Control → Enable it.
This re‑activates the local API on the P115, allowing Home Assistant to authenticate the device again.
Without this setting enabled, the plug only accepts cloud‑based control and Home Assistant cannot connect.
Confirmed working on firmware: 1.4.0 Build 251020
Hope this helps others running into the same issue!
For a first-timer this the most “Incredible” contribution !
I have already updated mine, and i did also solved it … But never had a thought of sharing this like in such FIX Topic … if any Site-Managers see this, this could be a good idea for a Category
I am trying to connect my 3 tapo P115 devies but they all failed on authentication. My L510 devices were connecting smoothly. Anyone an idea hoe to solve my problem.
I created an account just to say, if toggling the third party services in the tapo app doesn't work, try changing your password in the tapo app. Worked for me. I think it needed to generate new auth info or something, tried and tried, didn't want to reset my password. Finally set it to something entirely new, and it authenticated.
I purchased 4 Tapo p115 plugs. Three of them authenticated no problem. The 4th one will not. It rejects the username/password. Firmware is up to date, it’s on the same vlan, 3rd party is enabled in the Tapo app. But it won’t authenticate. I’m using the same username (email) and pass as I use to log into the tapo app and the tp-link cloud, just as i’ve done with all the other devices.
Same here, 4-pack Tapo 115s, 7 of them activated 2 weeks ago, 3rd party trick works fine, newly activated – in fact I opened another 4-pack and tried – will not register with Home Assistant. All of them in same Wifi network with same firmware version.
Tried off - then - on trick on 3rd party support switch, also tried change tp-cloud password, connecting app with plugs in same wifi network.
Today I installed and paired 6 P115s and then applied the firmware update. Home Assistant didn’t recognize the devices. (I have some slightly older P115s that work.) Error in Home Assistant: “Error: ‘Unsupported device … encrypt_type=‘TPAP’’” – The solution: Disabled “Third-Party Compatibility” in the Tapo app. Waited 60 seconds. Re-enabled it. Turned the power outlet off and then back on. Boom—Home Assistant recognized the new devices right away.
