FIXED - iPhone app error NSURLErrorDomain -1009 - FIXED

I’m a complete noob. I’ve just set up home assistant for the first time and not done anything in it yet. I’ve just downloaded the app on my iPhone 15 and I get this error NSURLErrorDomain -1009, any ideas on what this is and how to rectify? Home assistant is Ethernet annd on a Dell 3050m and obviously my phone is on my wifi.

Please help a complete noob.

Thanks

How did you fix this? I am expereincing the same problem, I’m also a complete noob.

Sorry i’ve only just seen this reply.

Did you get yours working?

I’m not sure to be honest haha, i basically just uninstalled it and then downloaded it again a few times, i think i also did a hard boot of my iphone in between and it seem good now. I also watched a video about open vpn so i can now connect to HA when im not in the house which is cool

Hey,

Eventually yes, and I followed much the same method as you. It just sorta starting working again…but I have some serious issues with the way I set up HA - its running via wifi only, which is giving me all sorts of problems. I need to make some changes to the home network and get the machine on LAN, and I’m sure many of my “problems” will go away

I’m totally new to this. Plugged in my green box, not being picked up by the scan on my iPhone, tried manually to add, and I simply get

NSURLErrorDomain -1009

Any ideas?

SOLUTION (for me): Shut off phone, and then re-start it. Then run the HA app and it will ask for your HA credentials (username and password). Once I saw that I started to think this was going to work, and in-fact it did. (Notice that when you remove the HA app and reinstall it without restarting the phone, that it didn’t ask for credentials! That is probably a bug.)

(!!? I don’t know for sure, but you might have to remove the app before turning off, and then re-install it after re-starting the phone.)

BTW, until I fixed this I had tried both http://homeassistant.local:8123 and http://192.168.1.101:8123. Error message was NSURLErrorDomain -1009

I tried turning off iOS → Settings → Home Assistant, Local Access, and then back on. When it was off, the Connect button would return quickly with the failure. When on there was a delay then the error. So It was trying to connect, but it now appears that the credentials given by the app were incorrect.

Also I have two iPhones and it worked fine on one of them.

Also I’m running Trend Micro Mobile Security, and this didn’t seem to affect the issue.

Also I tried removing and re-installing the HA app. I noticed that it retained the same URL for HA as before, so even though it said it was deleting all settings, it wasn’t, or it was in a cache or something. … that’s when I got the idea to re-boot the phone which finally worked.
