Flashing my Magic Home LED strip controller

Okay, so I bought one of those$27 LED strips from Amazon. You know the ones - sold under a zillion brand names and shipped to the US in giant cargo containers.

The controller is one of these:

controller

… which I believe is powered by an ESP8266 chip. I know there’s various ways to flash it, including ESPurna and using one of those Sonoff devices. I don’t have a full grasp on how to do it just yet, because I have a very crucial question before I go through the time and effort.

The lights/controller are in conflict with my Harmony Hub Remote. Using the Harmony remote causes the lights to change colors. Pressing “Up” turns the lights 100% red. Play/Pause turns them a pale green. “Activity 3” (Play Xbox) turns them 100% gold. I have no idea what’s going on.

I haven’t coded any kind of link between the Harmony and the flux_led component. I’ve made a few buttons that set a color and brightness value, but I doubt those are the problem.

So my question is… if I flash this, will it alleviate my Harmony interference? Alternately, does anyone have a guess how to resolve this interference without flashing?

And if I want to go ahead and flash, what’s the best firmware to load?

Thanks!

I had something similar with the LED’s I had round the TV. For me it it seems the controller responds to far to may IR codes. I wrapped tin foil round the IR receiver and stopped using the remote that came with it.

Which part is the IR receiver? Isn’t it part of the box that’s also the wifi unit?

Yes it’s part of the box with the wifi unit.

In your picture the IR receiver is on the end of the right wire that comes out the box. It’s the wire on the box that you don’t plug the power cable into.

Oh, is that what that is? I assumed (without investigating) that it was for connecting another strip of lights.

Thanks.

No worries. Hope it helps workaround the issue for you

Since it’s IR you don’t need “Tin Foil”. Just put some black electrical tape on it or anything else that will block light coming from the IR remotes.

Yep, a quick wrap with electrician’s tape and no more interference!

Thanks guys!
