Flashing Sonoff/Tasmota

Since a number of folks here use Sonoffs flashed to Tasmota, I wanted to ask:

The instructions for flashing call for the device to be put into upload mode. The way this is explained, is the Tasomta documentation is that you have to connect GPIO0 to GND (using the reset button on many of the devices) while applying power.

What I’m wondering is this: is it actually required to hold the button, while applying power, and then release it? Or can I apply power, and then press the button? The latter would be more convenient, as I’d not need to hold the button with one hand while trying to plug in the USB cable into the programmer with the other…

The first one, if you do the latter then it would boot into normal mode, and the press will just toggle the relay
