Flic Single Buttons - Working in Home Assistant

So, I currently have 2 ordinary Flic buttons which I purchased in a sale last year for £30 for 2 buttons.

I am currently running Hass.io on a Rpi3 using the “Bluetooth BCM43xx” addon from the HA repo and the “flid” addon from pschmitt’s addon repo, I have been running this since about January this year and it seems to work a treat with no drop outs.

At the weekend I came across a Flic Single Music button for £7.99 from Base website, these Flic Single buttons are made for a single purpose like Music, Selfie, Lights, Location and Find etc.

I did a bit of searching on the internet to see if anyone had tried to pair these with HA and use them like a normal Flic button.

I couldn’t find anything, so I decided to bite the bullet and test it myself. I ordered the button Sunday night and it arrived yesterday. I thought it would either not connect or the firmware would be different resulting in the “flicd” addon not recognising the device but, it worked! with all actions being recognised, Single click, Double click and Hold.

The only down side is the logo on the front but if the button is not on show or if doesn’t bother you, it’s a cheaper option to what is normally to £30 button.

Hope this post helps others considering buying these cheaper buttons to work with HA.

Edit: just found out that the Flic Single has an inbuilt battery that is not replaceable, it is suppose to last 2 years, i think that is still pretty good for £7.99

To me, that’s e-waste. Not sure why the battery wouldn’t be replaceable.
