FLIRC receiver on separate device from HA

I have a FLIRC USB Universal Remote Control Receiver that I would like to place near my TV. However, the Home Assistant box is in the next room. Does an approach exist that would allow for the FLIRC to be on a separate device from the HA device? I’m hoping that I can plug the FLIRC into a raspberry pi that transmits the output to HA in some way.

To be sure, I’m not particularly interested in the IR output, just the ability to send the button presses from an IR remote to HA in whatever form is easily available.

I think socat is likely to be able to do that.

Thank you, that looks promising!

I’ve spent a ridiculous number of hours trying to make this work. How on earth is this done on HAOS?

Thomas,
Did you ever succeed ? I’m trying to do the same thing. Banging my head with e Remote Home Assistant integration from HACS, and a dedicated Pi with FLIRC on it.
So far, never mind the proxy side, I can’t get FLIRC to work locally as keyboard remote under HAOS . Were you successful ?
This page describes how to use FLIRC with Home Assistant on a local device
