Force new device to be discovered

i tried to scan from my second device for bluetooth tracker, but the device does not show up in known devices.

i did also go to services and tried device_tracker / see. while running scan on the phone.

how can i get a new device added here?

Thanks,

I think you need to initially set the phone to enable BT visibility otherwise HA won’t see it. Setting scan on the phone won’t enable HA to see it as the phone scans but doesn’t enable visibility.

i have it enabled but no luck…

You haven’t given any clue what HW you are using for either HA or your phone? Bit hard to diagnose anything with no info :frowning:

sorry, here it is. running current HA on pi.

the phone is a galaxy s8… that i am trying to get added… BTW i have another S8 thats added just fine.

I also took device_tracker out of the the config size; restarted and add it back in.

If you have BT enabled and running on the PI you can open a terminal window and type bluetoothctl then type scan on. If your phone BT is enabled and is visible then you should see it after a few seconds or so. That will prove the phone and the PI are working, then we can see what’s up with S8 that can’t be seen in HA.

thanks, i will try this when i am home.

BTW:
[bluetooth]# scan on

thanks Keith.

i’ll try.

OK, hopefully it will tell us whether the phone is working OK, then we can try to figure out why HA isn’t seeing it.

the phone appeared in HA… didnt do anything different this time…

Thanks for your help Keith.

Yep, probably you didn’t wait long enough :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
