Force sensitive resistor

I had a thought today about how to make sure my coffee machine is off when it’s empty.

I think I have found the solution, FSR.

My coffee machine stands on three “legs”.
Is it advantage to have FSR’s on each leg?

I’m thinking of using a WeMos D1 and esphome with the resistance sensor.

My plan is to sense when the pressure is low, meaning little or no coffee in the machine for 2 minutes and then turn off the Sonoff that is built in to the coffee machine (this will also cut the power to the WeMos).

The FSR’s are not expensive, but each FSR cost as much as an WeMos here (~$10).

But as said, is there an advantage with two or three is series or on different pins?
I have never used FSR that is why I’m hoping someone with experience can share their thoughts.

You might want to look at load cells. Probably a bit cheaper, though you’d want a hx711 too

They’re not all bar shaped.

Load cells are probably better and the price is about the same.
But the load cells adds height. They are all of some height but the resistors are flat.
Adding a load cell will create much more work to level the coffee machine again.

you can also look into making one yourself with the exact shape you want - turns out they’re very easy to make
