Thanks to the johnpdowling custom component I can FINALLY use ‘say’ with my airplay speakers. Wahooo!
Oddly, though, once I’ve sent a ‘say’ to the speakers, they turn off, and won’t easily turn back on again. Any ideas anyone why this might be?

I have the same problem. Have you solved your problem
hmmm - I THINK I solved this by having two airplay/forked daapd/mpd components installed and using one and not the other for ‘say’.
I certainly no longer have this problem, anyway.
I will do some digging and report back.
