I wanted our family photos at home – on the Raspberry Pi that already runs Home Assistant, without another server and without locking them into a database. So I built Fotoarchiv:
- Gallery grouped by day with a draggable year timeline – fast even with tens of thousands of photos on a Pi 5
- World map with a time slider – show only 2014, then slide through the years
- Local face recognition – names are written into the files
- Edit directly in the file (EXIF/XMP): date, location, tags, people – also for hundreds of photos at once
- Duplicate finder for WhatsApp copies, resized versions and bursts
- Family app (PWA) for Android and iPhone – share-to-upload on Android, resumable uploads for large videos
- Internet access with own accounts and roles, lockout protection and CrowdSec support
- HEIC and H.265 are converted automatically so every browser can play them
Your photos stay plain files in YYYY/MM folders – the database is only an index.
