Frigate + Home Assistant + Google Coral TPU

Hi all,

I have HA running in a RPi version 3. I want to add frigate addon and configure my cameras to it, also activate the tensorflow that detects things in camera images so it can trigger alarm siren using the alarmo add-on.

I have the google coral TPU usb available for the image recognition, and also I have another RPi but version 4 (8GB mem) available ready to use.

What do you recommend for these stuff to work properly? Do I have to install Frigate in this other RPi 4 (as it demands lot of memory and process) with the Coral TPU on it and try my HA to connect externally to Frigate or is it ok to install Frigate in my RPi 3 with coral and everything on it directly?

Thanks a lot!

definitely would recommend at least a Pi4 for frigate if you have more than 2 cameras

OK, so the idea would be install HA OS in this brand new Rpi4 with Frigate as add-on and plug the Coral usb. Then I can send notifications, for example, trigger the alarm to the other Rpi3 that has “Alarmo” on it? How both HAs can communicate each other?

no, there is no reason to have multiple instances of HA. The Pi3 HA can communicate with frigate that is running directly in docker
