I know nothing much about Home Automation.
I want to add some security to another property and so I’m looking at some external CCTV cameras. It occurs to me that, while I don’t know any HA functions now, I can see a time when I might do and want to plan for it in these purchases. Things like being able to turn on inside lights on schedule, or at-will, temp sensors around the place etc.
I was looking at the Xiaomi cameras (they seem affordable, decent enough and available), and I can see that they do a range of sensors (door/window and temp). Will those work with a DIY HA install if I bosh one together on a spare PC? What about power sockets that I can remotely trigger?
There isn’t wifi/networking there at the moment, but there will be soon if I go with this.
I’m UK based if that helps. Happy to consider any brands that might be better or work more nicely in the future with an HA setup.
(I’m also happy to look at DIY kit projects but, when it comes to things like the cameras I would prefer if they are purchaseable as I want to be fairly sure that my dodgy wiring and/or code won’t mess things up
