GE 14291 showing up multiple times?

This has probably been asked before, but I can’t find a discrete “why” answer.

When adding a couple of GE 14291 Z-Wave switches I see two different types of entities. A Switch domain entity and a zwave entity. What exactly is the difference between them?

Is the “zwave” domain the actual node? and the “switch” how I would actually control it? Is it ok to modify the entity id for the switch? (or for that matter the z-wave domain entity?)

Also sidenote: I notice you can turn on/off z-wave on the overview. (there is a single toggle for “Z-Wave”) What exactly does this even do?

Thanks!
Also I

The zwave entity shows the zwave attributes. Battery, signal, etc.

The switch entity is controllable items. Just a switch. The light switches show a light entity. The difference is one is device status and other switch control

HA breaks out many item like this.

Not sure what your talking bout here

Yes

Yes if you are referring to the switch.device_longname.

Yes, I rename my devices to logical names like zwave.downstairs_hallway_lights and the switch for them switch.downstairs_hallway

Absolutely nothing, in fact it’s best to remove the list of zwave devices from your UI and setup your own Lovelace UI configuration.
