This has probably been asked before, but I can’t find a discrete “why” answer.
When adding a couple of GE 14291 Z-Wave switches I see two different types of entities. A Switch domain entity and a zwave entity. What exactly is the difference between them?
Is the “zwave” domain the actual node? and the “switch” how I would actually control it? Is it ok to modify the entity id for the switch? (or for that matter the z-wave domain entity?)
Also sidenote: I notice you can turn on/off z-wave on the overview. (there is a single toggle for “Z-Wave”) What exactly does this even do?
The zwave entity shows the zwave attributes. Battery, signal, etc.
The switch entity is controllable items. Just a switch. The light switches show a light entity. The difference is one is device status and other switch control
