I have been using HA for a month now and have a few automations etc. Wanting to get more advanced I saw the GE Smart Motion Sensors in a local store and was wondering if they work with HA or anyone have one working?. A search turned up nothing. Would I be wrong in assuming since its z-wave it can be made to work?
I can’t speak to that specific device but you will need a zwave controller like the aeotec zstick gen 5 which will plug into your raspberry pi (assuming you are using one) to control zwave devices. Home assistant makes it pretty easy to set up but zwave can still be annoying to deal with and just more complex in general just fyi. It really isn’t too bad though in the end, it was just a bit annoying to set up at first for me at least.
Thanks for the reply. I already have the zstick gen 5 working with GE switches/outlets, wifi devices and media players… I’ve been playing with HA on a pi3 (running ubuntu no gui) and my ubuntu server.
I guess my main question was if anyone had the GE motion sensor and how it worked?
Best way to verify compatibility is look at open zwave config folder in manufacturer_specific.xml on GitHub for device
If it is not there that won’t mean incompatible as devices may be loaded as generic device with limited capability to configure but it’s a good indicator
