Gecko Cage

Good Afternoon Automators,
My son has a Leopard Gecko and I recently installed an insteon dual controllable outlet. Each of the two sockets can be independently controlled (a Universal Devices ISY is my controller). Two lamps for the gecko cage are plugged into the sockets and control a day lamp and a night lamp. I have a program running on the ISY that switches these lights based on the sunrise and sunset times. My question is: Is there a way to template a binary sensor to show me if the light is on the Day setting or Night Setting because these are two independent devices?

Please tell me you’re not using those lamps for heating.

I am, but a leopard gecko doesn’t need a whole lot, and even with both lamps on it’s nowhere NEAR the 600W load of the outlet (they are 100W max on each bulb per the ZooMed lamp we have).

I wasn’t worried about your socket I was concerned about your leopard gecko!

Unlike other geckos, leopard geckos shouldn’t be heated with lamps, they just need a heat pad under the substrate. They get heat through their bellies rather than basking and are crepuscular so need twilight. The only lamps that have a place are the ones that help with vitamin production but don’t give out any heat. You’re basically torturing the poor thing!
