@kbye
i went a step further, i cut the orignal Gemstone Wire (just before where the white clip goes on the Gemstone controller) and exposed the copper by stipping the 3 wires with a wire stripper and connected it directly to the Athom Controller side (i.e. VCC, GND and DAT). See yellow cirle
Then got some 16 AWG and connected the power (VCC and GND) to the controller via the Gemstone Power Supply. Plugged the AC power back on, and Done! I haven’t looked back.
No wire goes into the “CLK” terminal (leave the blank).
If you have the LS-8P version (this is what I have in my Shed Gemstone install, using the a Google Speaker for the music), its the same except you have two channels. You only need to use the 1 channel (you could technically add second Gemstone line or any other LED line to this LS-8P, and controll it seperately from the first line/channel 1).
I hear you about being heisitant. My fallback was to upgrade to the Hub 2 if this didn’t work, so cutting a $5 wire connector (which I can ask my dealer for another if ever needed another one). Was worth the risk because im super happy i did this.
P.S. I also have 2 power supplies. The second power supply is feeding the second level of the house. It injected somewhere up there. I didn’t touch anything else, just those 5 wires I mentioned above.
by the way, the world of WLED is endless. I was doing some research and there are tons of WLED controllers out there.
This type comes up often from Dr.ZZs, his Dig Uno and Qaud controllers:
He’s got some good WLED controllers, again, similar connectivity, 3 wires GND, VCC and DAT. What I like of these ones is that its ethernet connectivity or stronger WiFi Connection with an external antenna (for those far away installs).
I’m happy with my Athom’s ones but if I ever get bored of them, its good to know there are plenty of other options.
I just ordered a Athom WLed controller so I can try to set this up over the holidays. Taking a look at the connector I am thinking this might be it https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/jst-sales-america-inc/VHR-4M/9924201
That being said it might be easier to find the black connector. Does anyone have a picture of it with it disconnected?
Also it looks like in the GemStone controller box there is a relay, by bypassing the gemstone controller would that relay no longer be used?
I don’t know if this photo is useful for you it’s from another Gemstone user (it’s not mine). I can’t imagine these being super expensive but then again your dealer can do whatever they want. They must be somewhere on AliExpress.
