Generic Laptop with HASSIO

Hello. Newbie over here… and enjoyng.

I have just set up my old laptop with HASSIO and would like to know if some one happened to be able to disable or shut down its monitor/display. Alternatively, is there a way to have a screen saver on this hardware with hassio - for fun…

Welcome fabiorcosta!

What do you mean with disable or shutdown the display? If you want a black screen or screen saver go to your hardware settings.

The laptop is 100% time on. As I am using hassio I don’t need to access display or even use keyboard. So it would be good to turn it off. From hassio I have no access to commands that would shut it down.

Maybe I’m on the wrong track, but this concerns the energy settings of the notebook and has nothing to do with HA?

Why not disable sleep on lid close that should turn of the screen and disable the keyboard

Actually no.
That just disable all reactions to the lid being closed,so the screen will just stay turned on, like when the lid is open.

This is actually something that should be handled in HA.
The BIOS hands over the power management to the OS once it starts to boot up.
The BIOS provide some sensors like lid close, keyboard inactivity, mouse inactivity, but the OS needs to react to it.
If you install DOS to a modern computer, then there is no sleep mode, no lid close and no screen power off, because it simply ignores the sensors.
You can achieve them same in Windows, if you remove certain device drivers in the device management.

I use a laptop for HA too, but I have physically removed the screen, because it was broken anyway.
This might be a solution, but before doing so make sure that you can manage the computer with an external monitor. Especially boot menu and BIOS setting can be limited to only showing on the primary/attached monitor, so check first.
