Hi all,
After having some issues with windows and VM running HA I have looked at trying to run Generic x64 on the pc instead.
When using either balena etcher or Rufus to create the bootable drive it creates multiple drives is this correct.
If I insert the usb and boot the pc from it, it gives a message saying no bootable drive found.
Any ideas or comments welcome.
Just some basics - Is the usb set up in ROM as a boot device?
Have you considered converting the system to linux and using VM. This is working for me on an old Xeon server.
HAOS does indeed create multiple partitions. Make sure your system is set to uefi and not bios.
So I have decided to try the debian route. Something I have no experience with but I thought i would have a go.
So I have the latest version installed on my pc (debian 10.10-amd64) it loads and runs fine but this is where the good news ends.
Following the steps to install HA fail drastically.
The first thing to do is update debian it fails.
The next thing a series of commands to install the required packages for HA most fail.
lastly install HA it fails. Not surprisingly as the previous steps had failed.
The image I installed was disc1 the iso install file. There are 2 other discs do I need to install them?

That was the guide I followed but not the image I used.
The links has many different iso images is there one in particular I should use?
It’s also not a good idea to run an OS from a mere USB stick. Those things are not meant for being used 24/7 and some can get significantly hot if used continiously.
Regarding setting you should double check you have enabled UEFI and also disabled secure boot.
If you are going to go with Debian, I don’t know where you found the link for the iso but simply going to https://www.debian.org/ and hitting Download will download your one and only ISO file that you need.
The standard one
debian-live-10.10.0-amd64-standard.iso
That downloads the netinstaller. It is a good one, but pulls everything but the base from the internet. The standard image provides more on the cd.

I now have an operational system running debian 10 with homeassistant installed and a snapshot from my previous system uploaded and working great.
However I am still having mqtt issues. I have reconfigured my devices to the new ip and they are showing as connected in the HA logs but they don’t work
It has me baffled
