Genie Garage Door - Aladdin Connect or other method?

I’m getting a Genie Garage Door opener with my home and it has Aladdin Connect. I read there is a aladdin connect integration for HA but people seem to be having trouble with it. I’ve also heard of people using OpenGarage with a Genie and also Zooz Gen16 or 17 relays. What is the best method to control this type of garage door? Hoping I can land on the right solution without trying a few

Thanks all!

I’ll be in the same situation very soon. Did you decide upon a solution?

Either of you end up picking a solution, and how did it go? I just installed a new Genie 6072, and I purposely didn’t buy the model with integrated Aladdin Connect, as I’ve already gotten burned once by MyQ, which worked for my old Chamberlain until they blocked HA, and it doesn’t even have the ability to control the Genie.

I’m going to try local control via an ESP8266 + single channel relay with the ESPhome. Seems most have good luck with that.

As far as Aladdin Connect integration goes, there’s an alert on HA’s page for that integration that notes it will break starting Jan 2024, but that Aladdin is going to update HA integration, but I’d rather not have to rely on any company’s word these days. And I don’t see anyone on these forums talking about integration woes or successes since that date has now passed.

I’m trying to find a solution and been unsuccessful so far.

The Aladdin Connect integration that just got deprecated worked well. I’m hopeful but also skeptical Genie promises a new HA integration.

One of the nice features of the Genie API is when a remote close or open command is sent the opener sounds an audible alert and flashes the light prior to door movement. You don’t get that if you push the wall button or remote control. The door also has an internal sensor monitoring door position.

The newer Genie doors use some type of serial communications from the wall pads. Simply shorting the terminals at the control head doesn’t work.

I’d like local control using the API function similar to the RATGDO board. If someone could deconstrct the control codes and door position sensor this should be doable. I’d pay for a local control board using the API commands.

I have an older Genie (circa 2005) and use a Refoss MSG100 to control it. Its controlled through HA via the Meross Integration.

I have it on a tightened down VLAN, and the device has been working great the past 4 months.

Their docs have a pretty comprehensive compatibility list.
