So currently I have the emulated hue setup and running to make my Wemo Bulbs work through Alexa (amazon echo) - which works great.
I am now looking into getting the philips hue for the colour bulbs, but I have read here that I cannot run a genuine philips hue hub AND the emulated hue at the same time to run both the Wemo bulbs through HA and Alexa (amazon echo) - and the philips hue bridge through Alexa.
Basically I dont want to fork out for the Phillips hue kit if it is going to stop my Wemo Bulbs from working through Alexa too.
I guess basically, can I run a genuine phillips hue bridge and the emulated hue from home assistant simultaniously through alexa?
Just curious why you wouldn’t just use native support on the Echo, since it supports both Wemo bulbs via the Wemo Smart Home skill and Hues natively.
Wow, really? I’m surprised that’s a US only skill - seems to be something that shouldn’t be regionally specific.
I don’t own any WeMo lights, but I’ll do a little research and see what I can find. Maybe in the meantime another user from your side of the pond will check in.
Found this on Amazon’s UK page, but to me it’s a bit ambiguous on the lights:
Some smart home devices (i.e. Philips and Wemo) do not require a skill for discovery by Alexa. For more information, go to Connect a Smart Home Device to Alexa.
Especially since it shows a link to a list of UK supported hardware, which shows a row of lights but when you click on the link to see “all supported lights” you get one.
I can understand why you are confused!
Well, you can run both the emulated and a physical, but be aware that you may see duplicate lights. I have the same issue running the Wink Hub and the Hue Hub in HA. I have the hue lights in Wink, which before HA wasn’t an issue. But since I use both the Wink and Hue components, I end up with a set of Hue lights that I have to hide in my config.
It’s actually not as big a deal as it sounds; just mark them as hidden in customize and only display the ones you want in the frontend. Other than that, it shouldn’t be an issue.
Yeah I’ve spent days going from one link to another, some saying its native, others saying its not - others american and giving false information for us UK owners… its sooo confusing!
I just checked the reddit link which said it should be built in - but she is definitely not finding my devices.
Checking your other link now and looking into this “built in” thing a bit more myself too - thanks again for your assistance! Bloody helpful chap!
That’ll be great. Good luck with it and I’ll keep an eye on the thread.
You may want to make this a little easier on yourself regarding the possibility of duplicates and think about using the entity_namespace option on the emulated hue if possible,
Did you end up successfully discovering both the genuine Hue and emulated Hue bridges simultaneously? I already had a Hue Hub controlled through Alexa, and am now attempting to discover the emulated Hue with no luck. When I click Discover in the Alexa app, nothing new appears. I would love to maintain voice control of the bedroom Hue bulb without a bunch more configuration if I have to “forget” the hue hub in Alexa in order to add Emulated Hue.
