Getting SSH to work on Home Assistant host via port 22222 on Synology VM (resolved)

Do you or anybody else, have an idea about this error? I am trying to mount sda1 to a folder, inside any container, and I get “Permission Denied”. Or if I try to create a directory, I get something about Read-Only…

@PickOne the HA OS platform mounts most things in the system as read-only, which is why you get the Permission Denied errors. I was able to mount my USB stick by creating a directory in the /root/.ssh directory since that directory is writable. I believe most things are writable in the /mnt/data directory.

Seems that now I can create folders, but I can’t mount. Whatever directory I use to mount, I get Permission Denied I will still try to find a way

I have done it in other way. I just connected with putty to my home assistant, on port 22. Then I added the usb stick to my device, after this, I wrote “ha os import” which is the command to import from usb (the one which is not on UI anymore). After this, I restarted HA, then I connected to port 22222, with putty and the private key,

Could you please explain me how you made a correct key to import in HA?
I get “error port 22222 is already in use” or error “publickey”.

Just can not get it done.

2 years have passed, but answer is valid for future visitors.

There is an easy way of activating the port 22222 for entering HAOS Host ssh… and it is adding an addon just for allowing acces.

-Add this repository with the addon store […] icon, at top right

-search for addon ‘22222’ and you will see the: HassOS SSH port 22222 Configurator

Install it.

Dont run it yet… go to config page of the addon and paste your public ssh key in format:
ssh-rsa AAAAwhatever…== root@mysupercomputer

Start the addon. Check the logs of the addon. Should say something like:
“[Done] Configurator complete. Perform a hard power-off now. This configurator only works once and is no longer needed.”

-Reboot the HAOS (not only restart).
-You could check from another linux machine, or even from the usual ssh&web terminal addon ssh, with command:

  ~ # nc -zv 192.168.25.193 22222
192.168.25.193 (192.168.25.193:22222) open

…as you could see, port is now open.

Now you could ssh into HAOS Host ssh from putty or other linux machine entering to your HAOS machine like 192.168.25.193 port 22222…

You could UNINSTALL the 22222 addon now. It is no longer needed and you will keep having access to HOST ssh.
