Getting started on hassio

This may seem very odd, but all the official documentation for configuring this seems VERY sparce, inaccurate and incomplete, is there a good ‘tutorial’ etc to help explain how the syntax of YAML works, how to edit layouts, some examples of how to do/create things.

I’ve never come accross such a large project with so little documention on the subject…

There is a huge amount of documentation, however, its a bit fragmented.

Im going to assume by layouts you mean the frontend. This will auto populate with devices as they are added. Lovelace was going to be the default in 0.84 but they pushed it another release. I would go that way if you are wanting to customize your frontend.

Read through the docs using the links on the right side of that link. Ask questions when you get stuck.

Examples are how I learned so ask away with what you want to do. What are you wanting to link into home assistant or automate?

Alot of people put their whole configuration on github for help. Mine is below.

https://github.com/SilvrrGIT/HomeAssistant

There is also the cookbook with more configs linked and examples

A few months back (last year), I was just getting started and this community along with the Discord chat was my lifeline! I have since had to stop all progress but I am basically starting from scratch again. I feel like so much has changed since I last dived in. One thing is for certain is that many here have not changed and are still being lifelines for us newbies. Best to luck on your new build!
