Since VW changed its interface, many evcc setups with a VW account get no vehicle data any more. I run a VW ID.7 and found a path that works for me, so I wrote it up as a guide.
Data path: VW EU Data Act portal (custom data request, every 15 min) → evcc (demo charge point in mode off, update behaviour always) → Home Assistant → helpers, scripts, automations, dashboard.
You get
- Battery level, range and odometer, usually 15–30 minutes behind the car
- Automatic trips with consumption (from the battery drop whenever the odometer changes)
- Charging log with costs, monthly/yearly totals and a 30-day view
- Optional Telegram bot to log charging and trips on the go
Pitfalls I hit
- Daily delivery in the portal made the dashboard look stuck for up to a day. 15 minutes works.
- In evcc, Update behaviour must be always, otherwise a parked car is never polled.
- evcc can report
0for a moment after a restart; the automations ignore it.
Status: Plain HA YAML packages plus a dashboard. Tested on a fresh container with the ID.7. Not tested: HACS installation, Telegram on a fresh instance, other cars. Example project, no support, not affiliated with VW, evcc or Home Assistant.
Feedback welcome: does it work with your car (ID.3/4/5, Audi, Škoda, Cupra, Seat…)? Where did the guides lose you?
