GoControl Garage Door Opener question

I’m thinking about buying the GoControl GD00Z-8-GC: Z-Wave Plus door opener, but was wondering if it can be paired to an in-car transmitter without a remote. I lost all the ‘clicker’ remotes, one of two keypads has failed, and I’d rather not have to spend another $50 for replacements on 2 doors if I can avoid it.

Thanks in advance!

What you can do is use your companion app on your phone to control it when you are in range via a nfc sticker on the car.

I was hoping for something more seamless that didn’t require a phone. Just about every car nowadays has a 3 button remote in the console, headliner or visor somewhere, I was hoping for a shortcut.

So install a wifi button that connects when in range lol. (the security part of it would be disable if your phone is not connected via USB or BT to your car via airplay or android auto based on what you use and you are inside the geo fence zone of where it connects).

So your answer to my question is ‘no’, it’s not possible to program a car sender with the GoControl unit alone, correct?

You stated you lost the clicker for it so I am giving you alternate options to control it… else just control it via the phone as is.

What technology is that “in-car transmitter”.
I surely never had a car in EU with a “3 button remote in the console”

the gocontrol superpower is it still exposes a dry contact - so use a car clicker for direct connect to the gdo from the car - gocontrol gives you … AND everything else a superpowered connected controller does.

read: you dont need it to… And you can read the state of the door from other sensors - so you get source of truth on is it actually open, closed or travelling and which direction. Let the old style rotating radio clicker connect to the GDO(s) as usual AND hook up your GoControl to the dry contacts. If your existing GDO does not have unencrypted dry contacts (Alladin) throw it in the trash or figure out how to hack your wall button.

Many cars use Homelink@, maybe yours does, too. Look at the HomeLink Integration

Correct. The GoControl GD00Z-8-GC is not what you are looking for - at least not something you can control via any in-car transmitter.

Please note that this Homelink integration is for the “Next Generation HomeLink” with an account and a password. So if OP is not currently using any Homelink app on his/her phone at the moment, this route would not be applicable either.

Now, @HiFiBerry , let us know what exactly (make and model) you have got, in terms of (a) your garage door opener, and (b) your in-car transmitter.
Plus also let us know what happened / what problem did your run into / what do you want to achieve / is controlling the door from your “in-car transmitter” a nice-to-have or must-have / what do you have in terms of smart home wireless protocols in your garage. I’m sure people here can recommend something with budget limitation of $50.

I, too, would like to use my car’s HomeLink and found this page

If I read it correctly, one of the HomeLink buttons in the car can be programmed to control the “Strobe Controller”. (That’s the critical part that doesn’t seemed to be explained in the link)

Then the “Strobe Controller” is mounted in the house/garage and powered by 12VDC. One of the outputs of the “Strobe Controller”, stepped down with a resister divider, would be an input of [your favourite micro device] and output state forwarded to Home Assistant.

I would use an ESP-01 module because, you can power the module with 12VDC by replacing the 3.3V regulator with a stepdown device (The ESP-01 relay board I have has an AMS1117 3.3V regulator which is spec’d at a maximum input voltage of 12V … could be iffy)
