Hello,
I am in Canada and wondering about plugs for my new Home Assistant environment.
I do have some Meross plugs that are setup with HomeKit but I don’t like them or even know if they would work natively with HA. I mean, I know they would if I was to integrate HomeKit with HA but I am trying to avoid having a bunch of hub integrations.
Is there a Zigbee plug out there that will also be Matter/Thread compatible in the future? A good reliable plug?
Do WiFi plugs work with HA? Is Z-Wave the way to go?
I’ve had good success with Sengled and Third Reality zigbee plugs. I threw out the Sonoff S40 plugs I had.
Most zigbee devices that promise future Matter compatibility are doing so via the vendor’s zigbee hub. For instance Aqara devices stay zigbee, but the Aqara hub exposes them over Matter.
At this point, if you want Matter/Thread, then buy Matter/Thread.
Depends on the vendor. Many Do. As you’ve already alluded, pretty much anything advertised as HomeKit will work. Theoretically any Matter WiFi plug should work. Most Kasa plugs should work. Then of course, anything that can be flashed with ESPHome.
My home is mostly run on Zigbee and Lutron Caseta. I’ve had good luck with Zigbee, but experiences vary. I have a couple of z-wave devices, but more because I wanted some to play with than needing zwave over zigbee.
