Google asking for billing information because of projects with maps integration

Hi, I just received a new mail from Google with this content:

Hi Jorge,

On May 2nd, we announced changes including our new simplified Maps, Routes, and Places products as well as a new pricing plan to make our products easier to use and more scalable as you grow. This is a reminder to please set up your billing account and associate it with all of your Google Maps Platform projects by June 11th.

Project: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

If you haven’t activated your one time coupon of $200, click here to activate it.

Also, today we announced that our new pricing will go into effect on July 16th - giving you an additional month of lead time. If you have any additional questions, please contact Support.

Thank you for using Google Maps Platform.

Best Regards,
The Google Maps Platform Team

Did you recieve it? I am using it for polling information about commute time but not so important for me, I am not planning to pay for it. Any idea? Is there any way to avoid these? Thanks!!

I got it, and it doesn’t seem to be much to panic about.

You should check your API account and see how many calls you are making.

According to their pricing page, you can make about 40,000 calls for the free monthly $200 limit.

If you’re being reasonable, you should be under this.

So:

  • check your usage, make sure you’re under
  • sign up using their link
  • add some billing details
  • profit?
