I know this is an old thread but I’ve tried this solution and for some reason the input_boolean isn’t showing up as a device I can use to trigger an automation in Google Home. The device is there and I can see it toggle, but I can’t set an automation based on it. Any ideas?

I had the same issue. Turns out the routine must be a “household” routine and not a “personal” routine.
