I’ve been slow to adopt voice commands into my home automation because my wife is slightly paranoid about “big brother” listening in to all her conversations. But I recently bought a Google Chromecast TV, and the remote for the Chromecast comes with a Google Assistant button that when pressed allows me to control the unit with voice commands (e.g. “play Star Trek”). In other words, the unit isn’t always listening for a “OK Google” but is only activated when I press the remote button (which would satisfy my wife’s concern). So my question is: will the existing Google integration tools allow me to also control HA with voice commands sent via the remote (e.g. “turn the hall lights off”)?
In my theatre room, i’am able to to use my Google TV GA button to “turn off the theatre light” . I have also setup rooms within Google Home app , ie theatre so i can just Say “turn off light”
Lee, thanks for responding. So just to review, I should be able to press the HA button on my remote and say “turn off theater lights” and it will work. If so, can you (or anybody) point me to a tutorial so I can install the appropriate integrations and get started?
