Can anyone help me understand why the Home Assistant Google Drive Backup app (by @sabeechen) is reporting “partial backup” when I’ve looked everywhere and I am as sure as I can be that I’m recording a FULL backup?
It matters because I’m about to do a major system rebuild and need to be 100% sure that my backup is a backup of everything.
From the screenshots you can see the settings I’ve got in place for the main HA backup (which backs up everything including Media), and for HA Google Drive backup (where I don’t override any of the HA settings so it should be the same).
The file sizes suggest is IS the same. Which worries me even more, does this mean that my HA backup (which is being recorded locally to the SD card and also to HA Cloud) is also not a full backup?
Thanks – yes, realise that, but in the settings for Google Drive Backup you have the option to specify a partial or full backup. I showed both the HA settings and the Google Drive Backup settings to show that, in both cases, I have (to the best of my knowledge) backed up everything and not excluded anything. And yet it shows partial backup.
The only obvious difference is “ignore other backups”. You have this set ON mine is OFF.
I can’t remember the process I went through setting it up. What I do remember is I had already setup the HA native backup system to backup daily (and when updating) both to the local storage and to HA Cloud / Nabu Casa. From memory when I installed Google Drive Backup I didn’t specify either any new backup parameters or schedules, I think what happened was I was presented an option to simply upload my backups to Google Drive each time they are created by the existing process. In other words I believe what the Google Drive Backup is doing in my case is mirroring the backup created by HA to a copy on my Google Drive.
I am about 95% sure my backups are fine and at least one of them will work! I’d just be more reassured before starting a rebuild to see “Full backup” on Google.
Could it be simply the difference between asking the Google app to create the backup, versus asking the Google app to store a copy of the HA backup?
Got to the bottom of this. Apparently it’s a known issue since (not sure when). HA backups don’t include the Local Add-Ons folder any more, mine is empty so it makes no difference but looking inside the GDB contents I can see the only difference is the presence of that folder – even though it’s empty I guess the app is correct, there is a difference and that makes my HA backup partial.
