Since late afternoon, the Google Hangouts notifier has stopped sending notifications. Was working great until then, no changes on my end.
Is the hangouts API finally deprecated in favour of the Google Chat?

Yes, google is shutting down Hangouts and sending people to Chat. A good replacement would be to setup Telegram, works pretty well.
Google Hangouts is working fine for me. The only annoying thing is the repetition of notifications when the service is running for a while. I think the API will roll into the Google chat service which is replacing hangouts.

Yup! It was working fine, then stopped working for ~36h and now it’s back again.
