i am trying to get google home to work with HA, and i dont want to use the cloud for this integration, is there a way to integrate this on a local network?
i saw a post about using an older google home app i think 1.129 which would allow integration with emulated_hue… i havent had luck with this…
Also i see there is an alexa skill but it requires using HA cloud - i dont want to use the cloud for this is it possible to use the HA alexa skill w/out the cloud connection?
Not sure how you would ever use an Alexa skill with Google Home to begin with. They are two completely difference devices and services. Not to mention, the HA Alexa skill is not yet ready. It’s coming soon.
As for Google Home and Emulated_Hue, I’m pretty sure it does work locally. Simulates a local Hue bridge. But then again, Google Home itself doesn’t work without internet so there’s no real way of having it truly local and offline.
So, to answer your question. Emulated_Hue just does on/off so it works well for switches and input_booleans, scripts etc. but not so well for light dimming, change colors, media controls etc.
There has been quite a few PRs lately for the Smart Home Skill with Alexa, but no announcement yet. Expect it in a future update, I would hope by 0.60 but that’s my wishful thinking. Here’s a PR with some details…
As for Google Home, don’t have one myself so can’t help you too much there, but yeah I suspect it needs the login just to authorize but may just send commands locally. That’s just my guess
Yes, there is a skill “published” but it is not for us mere mortals. There’s a few discussions about it, but without the ability to log in to “the Home Assistant Cloud” we can’t try it yet.
