Google Home and Universal Media Player

I have set up a universal media player entity to overcome Google Home’s limitation controlling the volume of multiple speakers at once. I believe I have had this working at some point, though recently I’ve noticed asking Google to change the volume on the device no longer works.

Inside of the Google Home application I notice that the device is registered as a “Set-top box” and no longer has volume controls. Setting the device_class to speaker, tv, or receiver seems to have no effect. The device type is updated correctly, though I’m only given on and off buttons and asking Google to change the volume does not work.

Is there a way to set up a universal media player entity so that Google is correctly able to change the volume on it?

Curious if this is still an active issue! I’m designing an entire house worth of equipment and am somewhat depending on Universal Media Player to interface with the Google Home app. Hoping there’s a way around it!
