Google Nest Wifi and VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) ID tagging

I have been told that the Google Nest Wifi does not allow VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) ID tagging.

I have no idea what that means, but I feel like I’ve come across it in relation to Home Assistant. Is the lack of VLAN ID tagging going to be a problem for me?

Thanks everyone!!!

Vlan is used to create multiple separate virtual network on the same physical network. Some people do this to separate their home automation network from the normal “surfing” network. This give some level of access control between their networks and a higher level of control. This is common practice on company networks.

But Home assistant does NOT need VLAN. So if you want to run Home Assistant that would work fine on a normal home network. Most of us do.

If you don’t know what VLAN is, it’s 99% sure you won’t have any problems.
