How do I make a alias for a entity?
input_boolean.home_sensor Would like this in all my automation’s and never changes.
alias from
input_boolean.xy_zigbee_sensor A sensor that changes as sensors break and are made obsolete.
Is the only option to use a group? If so how can I help improve the search response in Home Assistant? Is there somewhere to suggest it other then the forum?
Go to Settings | Voice Assistants | Assist and select the entity from the list of those exposed. Click on Add alias at the bottom of the popup. Aliases are only available for Assist and Google Assistant.
Then just ask your question directly, you spend most valuable first part of your post with an irrelevant sentences to your actual question.
Coming to your question, you can create a group entity and put your zigbee entity inside it and stick with group entity whose name would not change. I don’t know why your zigbee entity names are changing, they are not supposed to do, but i will skip that part.
I am heavily using ZigBee2mqtt and if one of my sensors breaks down and i need to replace it, i would remove the old one and rename the new device as old one and i would have identical entities. Device id might change but not entity names. So, this is because i do not know why you have this issue. You don’t need to look for loose end on my answer, there is no benefit. Just ask your question directly.
Does anybody experience the same as me (HA 2023.11.1) that you can’t remove a configured alias for an entity? I believe there was a ‘save’ button when configuring aliases, but that seemed gone. If you delete an alias (trashcan) and come back, it’s still there
